In Spring of 2022, I proudly earned a Master’s in Public Health from Ohio University, a program that significantly deepened my understanding of health dynamics at both individual and community levels. Throughout this journey, I engaged in rigorous research methodologies, honed critical analytical skills, and examined various public health issues, including epidemiology, biostatistics, and health policy. This comprehensive education prepared me to become a researcher and equipped me to navigate the complexities of healthcare systems as a committed health professional.
In Spring 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I obtained my master's degree in International Studies from Ohio University. This program strongly emphasizes cross-cultural understanding and global interconnections. Throughout my studies, I delved into the complex themes of international relations, cultural dynamics, and socio-economic challenges.
The curriculum was particularly focused on the rich history, diverse cultures, and emerging aspirations of the African continent, equipping students with the essential knowledge and skill set for impactful careers in international development and research. I valued the program's flexibility, which allowed me to customize my course selections to align with my professional goals, including specific courses on African political economies and public health policy.
The accompanying photograph features me alongside Dr. Wangui, a distinguished member of my thesis committee, who is the professor and chair of the Geography Department in the College of Sciences and Arts. For my thesis, I conducted an in-depth study examining the relationship between purchasing power and cervical cancer screening behavior among women in Kenya. This research utilized secondary data from the 2014 Kenya Demographic Health Survey, enabling me to analyze the socio-economic factors that influence health-seeking behaviors and ultimately contribute to improved health outcomes for women in the region.
